Oh my, another news on the bad economy and downturn of the economy as broadcasted over the news on tv these days. These negative reports are really dampening spirits and for sure, many employees like you and me may have to face these days - Retrenchment exercises.

I really hate the word retrenchment. Take myself for example, i have gone thru that cycle for two times already and know what it is like getting retrenched and then trying to find a job again after the previous disappointment. Especially when one is all time building their one and single career over the years, your resume could have been left at a corner not updating at all! A Change....(Part 2)

Another big change is coming after this festive season of merry making in my company. Both of my Assistant Manager whom was just promoted and my Executive has tendered their resignation. For the Assistant Manager, her reason was that she has to look after her two baby sons, she has lost confidence in maids and her mom is leaving for China together with her husband whom was sent there to work. Her mother-in-law is also not capable of looking after two babies and hence she decided to look after them for 2 years and then decided later in life. As for my Executive, she has lost interest in her job here and decided to look for some other challenges, my boss respects her decision and is letting both of them go.

I have developed a close relationship with both ladies but filled with both jealousy and anger inside of me. From then on, when both ladies have left, their portfolio will be taken over by me. More and more workloads will be piled upon me, my boss has already been starting to interview some new candidates but all of them fresh from school. Its not easy to fill in vacancies especially its quite specialise and you must have an interest in doing product development. As for me, i have long ago developed that sense of fulfillment doing this job. Its something that i love and working on it really is something that i would want to continue doing and improving myself.

All said, i hope everything will turn out well for our department.

A Change....(Part 1)

My travel company that i worked will be taking a 180 degrees change this coming February 2008. It has just been announced that we will be changing our operating hours as some of the staff has feedbacked that a change in the operating hours will bring some good changes to the company. The counter staff will have 2 days off instead of the 1 day off that they are entitled to but this will mean that they will have to put in longer hours in the office.

Secondly, along with this change, our operating hours will change from 9.45am to 8.30pm. Seems to me, its pretty long hours for the counter staff to be sitting in the office and attending to enquiries, calls, etc... My colleague commented that after going home after a very long day, one might not have the energy to meet up with their friends or go out at all.

As for the back-end office where i worked, we are also affected and WEF from 1FEB08, we will also go for the alternate saturday off. But there is a catch though! We will still report for work at 9am but will leave office at 6.30pm instead of 6pm. And while those saturdays that we are scheduled to work, we will start our work at 10am and finish off at 1pm, with 3hours, i really do not know what can be done! Why couldn't our boss let us start work at 9am and finish at 12pm instead of 1pm? Oh well, at least, there is a alternate saturday off to look forward to. Oh i remember now, there is another catch by the way. If we have fairs going on, then we are not allowed to be scheduled for our saturday off and will be replaced by another day instead.

Well, i hope everything will go smoothly for me this year....

A Change....

I felt sad this couple of days as i've discovered that my senior product executive has been promoted to a assistant product manager. We came in at the same time but she was promoted to a managerial position whereby i'm still stuck at this present position. I was experiencing sharp pains in my heart and felt rather displeased with myself and questioning whether did i done anything wrong and that why i wasn't deserved to be promoted as well.

Then, i received another bad news, my boss is intending to ask me to be placed under the counter session in a way to supervise the counter staff and keep an eye on them as well. My big boss has always been thinking of putting all his product team at the front counter so that if there were any enquiries from big groups, its easier for the counter colleagues to close the sale. With this arrangement done, i may have to perform shift duties and might have to work on weekends and even public holidays as well, as these are the times where the public will come and enquire on tours and etc...

When i put the two together, i felt that my boss is trying to push me out as there is the saying of "one mountain cannot hide two tigers" meaning to say that she cannot have two managerial position supporting her in this area. And hence, the decision to get me out to the counter. I was at a loss and i kinda of like my job and how its going right now, but with this change, i really felt extra lost...

Oh well, lets see what the year 2008 will bring for me...

My overseas assignment confirmed!

It has been confirmed that i will be leading a group of around 80plus of folks up to Koh Samui Island. I'm really excited and bewildered about this opportunity. We will be allocating 2 Tour Leaders which includes myself and another of my co-worker to come along to lead this trip. I will be gone from the 6th to the 9th December 2007. Along with this group of passengers, there will be this female artiste following us, her name is Jing Yin Ji. She has been with Mediacorp for some time and now her main acting focuses on mums, grandparents along that line.

Not many of us anticipated this to be a success as nobody actually wants to follow this programme. I guess this artiste pull of her own supporters is not that strong, meaning her supporters are mainly from the older folks and going to a beach holiday does not excite them at all, from the holiday trend of my country. And hence, it wasn't a huge success this time round compared to the other trip i had last year. My boss has actually wanted to have a younger artiste to lead this tour, someone hip, full of vigour or sunshine and hopefully lots of young supporters but the final decision lies with my big boss and he decided to have this Jing Ying Ji to lead this group. Well, maybe, this is a lesson to be gleaned for my big boss and not any artiste will attract the crowd to come and support but someone of a certain popularity will be able to do so. Well, i will end here and write somemore later...

Overseas Assignment again

Boy, i received some good news for myself. My boss told me that i were to choose one of the charter flights which is flying off this early December to Thailand to lead a group up. I was quite excited that i could again do this assignment again.

There are two dates which i am given and to choose one date to go. The departure date of 6th December has about seventy-nine passenger and the date of 9th December has zero passengers. I think that i may choose the date of 6th December as i could also earn some tipping from my fellow passengers and at the same time, i could also earn some allowances for this trip although it isn't much for me.

Next, i will have to get ready to pack up for this trip, but before that, there are alot of preparation work to be done. I will have to conduct a briefing for all those seventy-nine passengers, clear off those balance payments and many other administrative duties to be fulfilled. Next, i will have to purchase a digital camera to bring along, my old canon digital camera broke down when i dropped it while coming back from another overseas assignment last year. I still have not got around to buy one yet. Still thinking which brand, model to buy though. Oh, i am brimming with happiness that i could go for a trip again....

I recently finished my in-camp training. That was the same kind of in-camp training that i went through and its the 3rd time that i have done such a exercise before in my time. I have found that life is refreshing once you have completed such a exercise and well i guess time is really well spent learning from one another (other camp mates). I have made some new friends along the in-camp training and have learnt some new things as well.

Alot of my in-camp mates think that this exercise is really a waste of time and resources of us and would really rather go back outside to work our ass off. You see some of us are self-employed and hence this unique group of guys think that this exercise is really wasting their time where they can use this time and earn more money out in the corporate world. They have tried to defer this in-camp training but was rejected. Reason being that the notice was sent out 6 months ago before this scheduled training and hence there isn't a excuse that there isn't anyone to cover the duties of those coming for this in-camp training. I've have tried to defer myself and this was exactly what i got in my face. These days, the government in my country really takes in-camp training very seriously and would take actions if that certain individual does not turn up for this training. In my country where i lived, its against the law to not turn up for this in-camp training whenever you are being called up.

During this time, i have learnt some things from my this friend whom is also in the same vocation as me. We served this in-camp training together, he is a nice guy and in his thirties. He is still single and living with his mum and dad, drives a car and is a manager (IT division) of a IBM company here. He is a fanatic of PSP where i think anyone whom owns a PSP will agree that its a great game to bring along to enjoy during those free times that we have during this in-camp training. I even got some sites where i can download new games and also some fun animes which i like to watch and am trying to download it into my PSP game machine.

All in all, this in-camp training has helped me gain some new friends and if i am not wrong, this could be my last in-camp training. Well, fingers crossed.....till then in-camp training....

Different occupation

This time round for three weeks,i will be doing my reservist training. This reservist training is all about preparing the men whom have gone back to the society to work and are recalled back to do some training and exercise to prepare them just in case the country needs them for war time situation here. I have a number of friends whom comes from all walks of life, some come from the other government sectors, most come from the private sectors and a small percentage being self-employed. Normally its the self-employed whom mades a big fuss while attending this reservist coz time is money and precious earning money time is wasted on coming back for re-training in camp, although the military do reimburse back the money that these self-employed lost out on.

During my working stinct with this social club house which i worked around 2 years, it was full of fun and excitment and self-satisfaction. It was raining cats and dogs this morning and i was forced to take the public transportation today! Bad News....

Oh my gosh... When i heard from my direct boss as she slowly tries her very best to describe the situation where my big boss is intending to do with our departments working schedule.

He intends to reshuffle our reporting times to work and that will include working on weekends and public holidays. I immediately protested to this proposal. My direct boss and i were equally frustrated and felt that this company which we are working are killing us and slowly like a vampire draining our blood and soul away from us. Already, we have worked like the whole month of AUGUST07's weekends trying to build up the sales as much as possible. And now this....

The reason being why my big boss has such a idea in mind was that the counter staff were unable to close those big groups whom comes by to check on the pricing and as such we lose out to our competitors, whom are more proactive and would have easily closed off this particular sale. Hence, he has come out of this idea with us working during the weekends will cut down opportunities snatched away by our competitors.

Both me and my direct boss agrees that the counter staff at times is not strong enough to close certain destination sales but at the most, they should at least take down the numbers and inform the customers that we will get back to them soonest possible. Even if we were to work on weekends, we can't really help much being the fact that the airlines sales representative will be off to enjoy his or her weekends and our land operators will also be doing that. Nobody can or will work 7days a week or 365days a year just to make sure sales won't slip out of their hands. In compensation of the weekends work, we will be compensated 1day off during the weekdays. This is just so stupid, being the fact that the airlines and land operator will be working and we are off, when that is the time which we are needed the most!

Oh gosh, i have prayed to God that my big boss will change this idea of his and have asked the church to pray for me too! I really hate to miss the Sunday worship.

Natas Sept 2007

At last, my Natas Fair has just finished and now i could just rest abit before my big boss will start looking into staging another post Natas Fair in town again. I see alot of people booking for their year-end trips with the different travel agents gathered at this big playground.

Throughout the three days affair, there were always plenty of people around either checking their tours, booking their tours or just poking their heads and checking for fantastic deals from all the travel agents. There was this general sentiments that alot of travelers will be traveling this year end. It seems like the general public has extra cash around to spend for their overseas trip and this is the time to grab that special deal that they have been waiting for.

Be it short haul or long haul trips, it seems like people are trying ways and means to get out of this country. I heard that Korea is a hot destination this year and is doing quite well though. I was pretty tired at the end of every fair, talking non-stop, booking online flights for my passengers. I got alot of enquiries too over the last three days and i hope they will come back to look for us again!

Migratory Busyness!!!!

Why did i use this word Migratory? I saw this post from my blogging friend - Peregrineonline.com describing her busy morning before and after getting on the usual customs check-in.

As for myself, i seem to be in the Migratory mood today too. I arranged a lunch appointment today with my ex-boss, just having a simple lunch and i hope he will blanja* me though. Time for me to catch on him on what is the latest happenings at the club itself. I used to work in a country club setting and now a full swing to a travel agent business. I like this place where i started a my work as a finance officer many donkey years ago. I like the idea of visiting long forgotten places and it feels nice and special visiting old colleagues and renewing that relationship again.

In the evening, i made yet another appointment visiting another christian friend of mine who seems to be not attending church lately. Have not seen him for some time and i hope by visiting him this round, it will remind him that someone out there is thinking about him and praying for him. When one stops coming to the church, it makes it all the more difficult coming back again to church to worship. Satan has his ways to make all of us stop attending church services. So by this, i hope to encourage him to come back and attend services again. But i think its a good start, moving out of my comfort zone to help those in need and renewing those old forgotten relationships!

Yet another Travel Fair!

Yes, my next travel fair will be in two weeks time. Its time to work my butts off, the travel fair will be held at Expo this time round and its about 30 minutes riding journey for me but if i took the train, its around 1.5 - 2 hours journey. The fair grounds will be gigantic as its meant for big scale events to be held in my country. There are eateries at the entrance of this mega exhibition hall and it comes with a huge carpark as well. So no worries for no parking lots for cars and bikes as well.

The problem is that i will have to look up the map again to determine my journey route as it has been some time since i traveled there.

The place where i used to work for as an accounts executive, i was in-charged of the accounts payable and have to issue cheques payable to different suppliers and such. As the company which i was working for was a multi-national company and its head office is in Atlanta, USA. As such, there were alot of expatriates coming to my country to work for its offices here. Before coming into this profession of a travel agent, i used to work for a country club and the lounge that is situated inside the club always has fun themes going on for their members. One theme which is the most fun for me has to be Halloween party. Lots of drinks, food, dancing with the gals are the sort of thing that the members engaged themselves while in the lounge here. The lounge also dresses up itself to look scary and haunted and the waiter and waitress will also dress to the theme. I have a friend who is working inside the lounge and was thinking about what to wear this year for Halloween. I recommended him to get some Halloween Ninja costume and not just any costume but from the famous online store called Karate Depot.com. They offer authentic ninja uniform made of cloth and complements it with split toe ninja boots and socks and a black wooden ninja sword to make this set. To reward those whom were there during the last 3 weekends of gruelling travel fairs, my boss has decided to reward his staff and bring them to a nearby hotel for a buffet dinner.

Its just a 10 minutes walk from my travel agency and the ambience is nice and cool. The food is okay as i have tried their high tea before. Although, i must comment is that their dishes are usually the same kind of food served. Someone suggested to my boss to take us all for a meal at the Ritz Carlton, but he replied that our nearby hotel's dishes has since changed. Well, i guess my boss wants to save some of his hard earned money which was in exchange for the hard work that all this staff have put it - time.

My government is releasing this news of our citizens retiring at the age of 65 years old. When we reach this age, then we are allowed to draw out monthly sums of money which was deducted when we are working, a certain percentage goes into this fund and everyone is liable to contribute this amount of money and the employers too play a similar role and contributes a slightly lesser amount to this employee's total contribution to this combined fund.

When i began to realise this and finally the news sinking into me. It got me thinking of my retirement, although i'm only 35 years old and i still have the second half to complete before i draw out the money from this combined fund of mine kept by the government. From the look of it, i think that i may resort to migrating to another place to enjoy my retirement somewhere with my aged parents of course.

The place that i thought of migrating will have to be my nation's close neighbour - Malaysia. This place has a slow pace and i hope that by the time i reach that age, i could move over to the far ends of Malaysia. Have a lovely and white sand beach, grow a plot of vegetables, being self-sufficient, i will set up a homestay and with my expertise, it shouldn't be very hard to do that. I will set up a online site where visitors or consumers can come and view and book their homestay accommodations with me. Bringing my aged parents along with me will help me to ease the load of me and at the same time, my mum can help out with the cooking of dishes and food for our holiday makers staying at our place.

That was what i'm thinking in my head now and for a few days, this thought began growing inside me, i hope i can achieve that someday. My blogging friend peregrineonline is a avid traveler and she has been to Malaysia for umpteen times and from reading all her blogs, it makes me realise that Malaysia is most and very likely to be my retirement nest for me and my family.

Don't you love what this man is teaching and doing? I am now trying to build up my stamina and am training for my IPPT which is a standard fitness programme that all males have to pass in my country. Training was not easy coz i have lapse in my training and am training very hard to build up my stamina. Tomorrow will be my fitness test and i am crossing my fingers that i will pass and put this misery behind me coz i hate to exercise and sweat!

When i was this video clip of a Ice Hotel in Norway, i was kinda interested to see what it is all about? I guess the feeling inside a ice hotel will be cold and nothing except cold. I have been to places in Asia where its very cold during the night and there was once that i even have to sleep inside my sleeping bag, put on a few layer of clothes before i tuck in and sleep that was all i have encountered as a traveler in a distant country. But never in Norway in a ice hotel. Should be fun, i should go and try it some day.

We were invited to a co-worker's house which he called the "World of Paradise". He is quite proud of his house and i have posted some pictures at my JAMEO-TIPS blog that shows how his room is crowded with Coke memorabilia and cute items in almost every corner of his room. My Major Fair on 12 AUG 2007

It was a grand event as we started out on the opening of our main fair on the 12AUGUST2007. It was a pretty hectic day as all the travel consultants including myself, my other co-worker and our direct reporting boss was at the travel fair trying to recruit as many travelers to book our tour and free and easy packages. We had a huge success and we thank our partners, all our sales staff whom were there that day helping to recruit travelers.

It wasn't all that fun especially when there are limited spaces for us travel consultants to sit and assist our customers to book a tour. Because of the space constraint, i had to share my table with the ticketing department which they didn't mind at all. We had a long queue forming by 11am which was the official time for us to open our fair to the public. Members of the public were queuing and seats were given to those whom are queuing in the line. It was lucky that there weren't any complaints that the queue was long as all of us travel consultants were so busy that we didn't even have time to go for our toilet breaks and for our meal time as well. But over all, i guess my bosses should be happy with the results.

Now, we are starting to prepare for our main fair for this coming Sunday again.

This year-end is going to be a busy quarter for me. Firstly, there are the endless travel fairs that i will be participating in. Now, there are lots of preparation work that we have to put into before a travel fair can materialised. My boss is also thinking of getting a chartered flight again to one of those beach destination near my country. At least now, i have some experience in chartered flights and hope that everything will go smoothly.

I like what they are doing for the kids here. Teaching them to learn a healthy sport is a good thing to do and especially since the kids have lots of energy to burn, this will be a good venue for them to do so. In my home country, we don't have such a compound to play such a game. Even when we were practising this game, we used the open field in our neighbourhood. But there were times, where we borrowed a baseball field from a local school nearby our neighbourhood, it was really fun.

& can you? I thought the Americans are the top-notch players in this field of baseball game. Apparently, i'm wrong, now there is even a chinese baseball association and these two players are hand picked by the Yankees to play for them. Can't wait to see them perform on the playing field.

We started playing baseball in my country and learning from this lady friend of ours whom happens to be a American Baseball lover. Her dad is also a baseball player and at times, he also shares with us some tips on playing this game. To tell you the truth, till now, i still have trouble playing this game. But it was good fun, trying to catch the baseball and running after it.

We observed a minute of silence for the demise of my friend's daughter whom has just passed away recently, her doctors verified that her internal organs were already malfunctioning and she would only be left a few days to survive.

Her parents which were my friends, both husband and wife, were close friends of mine. They have this only daughter and they were pain stricken with grief when they found out that their daughter will be taken away by the Lord.

I hope that his daughter will have peace and find her place amongst the saints in Heaven.

My mood this morning was just like the pack of ducklings together with mother duck.

It was raining in the wee mornings around 4.30am, continued till around 8am which was time for me to decide whether to ride my bike to work or take the public transportation. Decided against the odds to take my bike since the rain has grown smaller.

Luckily, i wasn't drenched from head to toe, but my socks were. After parking my bike, i had this tummy ache, which i need to relieve off. Couldn't find a toilet nearby, had to go to a coffee-shop which was another block away, the toilet was wet, i had to put my bag on the floor as there weren't any hook on the door of the toilet.

Finished my business and quickly rushed to my office as it was time for me to report for work.

It was a hectic morning for me...

While passing through my neighbourhood, i noticed that the Fun Fair is here. To stage their performances and numerous stalls are here as well. There are tons of snack and food to enjoy, game stalls to play with as well.

It brought back childhood memories for me while passing by it, the thrill of enjoying the numerous rides and especially this big ferry wheel. The thrill of hanging up there for few seconds there.

Recently, my company is trying to dispose its tickets by selling at $68 per person excluding taxes. I would say that its a pretty good deal going over to Bangkok at such a low fare and with all its frill that you can enjoy while flying on a economy airline, instead of the no frills budget airline which will cost you a couple of bucks buying yourself a cup of drink or etc...

This ticket which we are desperately pushing belongs to Finnair. The airline stops flying from my country to/fro Bangkok in the mid of next month. Not sure why, they are doing that, maybe perhaps there isn't enough justification for the airline to fly to/fro via Bangkok, where the capacity is not filled up at all while flying this route.

Wish us best of luck to get rid of this ticket stock...

Different Faces that I've met during the Travel Fair

As the travel fair has just ended, livid memories of different personalities and types of people whom has come to book or enquired with us during the fair crossed my mind from time to time, probably signaling me to put this in writing in my blogs.

1) Kiasu (afraid to lose out) people whom i've met during the fair when enquiring or booking their tour with us, will come up with questions like, whether the hotels will confirm, when will they collect their tickets and vouchers, why is the deposit payment so steep for your company, what kind of gifts will your company give and etc...

2) Funny people whom i've met during the fair has to be this couple whom has done one booking with me flying to Hongkong. The husband acts just like Mr Bean, his actions and humour, when i think about it, just makes me laugh.

3) Serious (don't play play)people whom i've met during the fair whom has also done a booking with me flying to Hongkong. The husband and wife seems to be on loggerheads, even when discussing the itineraries, the booking process itself, the timing of their flights etc...

And to summaries, i got to see different aspect of the people whom has booked with me, sets me on a thinking mood on how easy it is to notice how well your family has functioned within a couple or family relationship when it comes down to even deciding which holiday destination to chose from.

This was a big event organised for all the travel agents in Singapore to display their own uniqueness of their own product and services to all those consumers out there. With so many agencies competing for business, consumers benefit by getting the best deals.

I like participating in such big events, coz this opens to greater opportunity for me to look at what other travel agents are doing with their product and services or special deals that they are promoting during this travel fair where consumers and travel agencies agree on is that the best deals can be found at the Natas Travel Fair.

Altogether, for this March 2007 fair, they have attracted 121 exhibitors who took up a total of 6,600 sqm in booth space, which was a 15 percent increase over the same show last year. Our company conducted live draws in which a Mercedes-Benz A170 and a return business class air ticket to Sydney can be won.

And of course, banks will be throwing out big promotions, gifts etc to entice consumers to either sign-up with them or pay using their credit cards. Its the all year round, annual travel fair for my country that happens in around the 3rd week of March. Families or travellers alike will start planning their holidays around the June school holidays, will take part in this fair with lots of exciting promotions, discounts, lots of give-away, prizes to be won, destination souvenirs and so much more awaiting for the consumers to just book any holidays with the travel agents that are present during the 3 days travel fair.

My boss's computer breaks down...

Last week, my boss's computer finally brokes down. From the time i've joined this company, my boss has been on this computer like the time she starts work in the morning from 9am till she knocks off like maybe 10 or 11pm, day in and day out, 10 hours straight. No wonder the computer breaks down. I think she feels this way too, like she has a broken limb where she depends on it so much. Now she can't do anything but wait patiently for the IT dept to fix the problem, seems to them, that the diagnosis is that the mother board has crashed. All her datas seem to be gone forever. This teaches her to back-up her important files regulary and reminds me to do that daily on my work too.

Now, i have to be her personal assistant, print the emails that she is not receiving and etc...Help, fix her PC fast...

My co-worker rescued a dog....

Lately, my co-worker has found a dog in his neighbourhood, which till now no one has come forward to claim that dog. That young female dog thru' much exploring in the Internet happens to be a King Charles Cockiel Spaniel. My co-worker is pregnant for the few months now. Her tummy is growing, and the good news is that she is giving birth to twins. She told me that her parents and her in-laws are especially happy for her. She is now the queen of the jungle where every knee shall bow before her and will do anything to make her happy.

She tends to have mood swings too and have been scolded by her a few times now. But i will still continue to be her friend no matter what. She's also my lunch buddy and if she does goes for her maternity, i'll be all alone.

My boss told me that i will have to prepare to take over her job or cover her while she is away later in when the baby is due. But my boss cautions me that she may leave early since its twins that shes carrying and difficult for her movements later. Poor me, have to cover my co-worker later on, i think probably from june or july onwards till the end of the year.

Our company came up with a promotion during our Road Show and its called one for one deal which is at $121 flying to Bangkok, Thailand. To be eligible for this promotion, one has to be a Singtel Mobile Subscriber, present his/her Mobile bills to us and we will take over from there.

This special deal is for the 1st 20 Singtel Mobile Subscribers. Our hotel which is tagged along with this promotion is at White Orchid Hotel (2*)located at Chinatown in Bangkok. On top of these, we are throwing in return airport transfer, daily breakfast and 2nites stay at this hotel.

Only one subscriber per booking is allowed. The subscriber pays only the land portion where else his/her partner will pay the full fare. However, there wasn't much takers, probably because its flight is by Finnair, which operates in the night and its not a daily flight too. But never mind, we'll try harder next time for a hard to come by promotion.

Every half yearly, the Travel Trade in my country will hold a Travel Fair, normally located in somewhere in town so as to provide easy access to all visitors whom would like to book their holidays in advance will normally come and see what are the best deals and bargains there will be set for the consumers. But way before the fair starts, we Travel Agents will have to slave out in order to produce the best deals in town, thus also remembering that we are in direct competition with our competitors down at the Trade Fair where numerous Travel Agents will be displaying their skills and best deals to lure that customer into their turf.

Like i've mentioned earlier, our typical day before the commencement of the Travel Fair will be preparing to submission of our deals to the Ads Agency for them to be compiling for our newspaper advertising and our pricelist normally distributed during the Fair. But way before any submission can be done, we will normally try to get our overseas agents to quote the best deal, promotions for the fair, discuss on what will be the trend for this years market and etc..After these are sorted out, we then begin to submit our deals to the Ads Agency for them to come up with the basic format/layout of our pricelist. After several vettings, the pricelist will be finally ready to meet its future owner=consumers. Now arm with the pricelist, consumers then can browse thru' what is this years market trend to places they wish to go and hop on down with their whole family like a family outing down to the Fair to look for the best deals in town.

Some observations which i had since i'm blogging will be the ugliness of consumers down at the fair. Once, i was serving a couple and already a queue was formed without my noticing it. The people behind that queue will roll their eyes and keep track of the time you've spent on this particular customer in order to determine whether you are efficient or not...Who cares....they will have to wait in line for their turn. Normally, banks will also play a part in these Travel Fairs in order to reel in potential customer base into their turf as well. Any purchases from the selected Travel Agents will entitle you to a Travel Trolley, mini fridges, mini hi-fi sets, Cooking appliances etc...to entice that consumer to spend using their credit cards. Without mentioning, the credit card companies will without any questions extend your credit limits for that dream travel you've planned or a honeymoon vacation. Once, i've heard of this scam, where this particular consumer books a long haul vacation and paid a dear amount for this package. Knowing that this tour will never form as the travel agents needs at least a number of passengers before forming the required group size. Hence, the travel agent will have to refund the amount of money the consumer paid, however the catch is any purchase that the consumer has paid thru' his/her credit card, they get to retain those gifts without ever needing to return that gift although the group was not formed. And so knowing of this flaw in the system, consumers are armed and they know which are the unlikely travel packages that will not form and take a risk/gamble and finally gets away with those gifts the banks have set aside for.

I must salute those consumers whom are able to brave the crowds and queues and at the end of the day get what they've schemed after...

Month & Dates are important to a Travel Agent

MONTHS & DATES are important & crucial to us (Travel Agency). They are like having Curry together french loaves. Below are what we look for in months & dates:

1) Help us to identify which are the best period to travel.
2) 4 Seasons (Winter, Autumn, Spring, Summer) for travelling.
3) Peak Travelling, hotspot for travelling during that particular month.
4) Negotiate a better rate even when we know its high or low season.
5) Open up more dates when its School Holiday/Public Holiday around the corner, i.e. X'mas, New Year etc....
6) A special event/promotion taking place, i.e. Hongkong Summer sale begins roughly from July onwards...

But i like every month-end, coz its pay day.......yipppppeeeeeee..............

Discounted rates from Overseas Operator/Agents

Its Travel Fair again and don't you dare to approach me again for discount/better rates. My operators normally will have this to say:-

1) Their rates are not out yet for your fair, so what if your fair is around the corner.
2) Give you special fare/rates, sure how much returns am i gonna get from you?
3) My rates are already dirt cheap, please don't ask for anymore discounts, or i will have to hang myself.

These are the standard answers i always get when i approach my operators........

Aiyo, my boss back from her holiday..... She doesn't seem to happy to hear of the incident that has happened in Taiwan. She told me i will have to assist her in some of her work. She just scolded one of her operators also and in a Chinese New Year Period.

As the saying goes, when the cat is not around, the mouse runs around. My boss is not around for the day and i'm by myself. However there were some hiccups for my company Group's trip in Taiwan and my big boss has been trying to call my boss but to no avail. Me to the rescue, i quickly called up the operator in Taiwan and enquired on the situation there. Request that the operator take care of those group and offer to add extra dishes during dinner, present some gifts to make our passengers happy and not bring back the problems. The traffic in Taiwan is very bad with lots of their own people travelling out of Taipei as well. Our groups are delayed from time to time and meals are being delayed. Our operator is also there personally to monitor the situation as well. What a day when my boss is not around.......

CHINESE NEW YEAR....YIPPEEEE.....BUT THINK ABOUT IT, OLDER BY ONE YEAR...HAIZ
